Hyderabad, March,04,2026: Ration Rice Distribution will be carried out for three months in a single phase, following a decision by the Central government. The move applies to April, May and June allocations.
The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs has written to states, asking them to distribute three months of ration rice during April itself, keeping in view the upcoming summer season.
According to the communication, the decision was taken as temperatures are expected to rise sharply in the coming weeks. The Meteorological Department has indicated that heat conditions may intensify after early March.
Officials said the advance distribution is intended to reduce hardship for beneficiaries during peak summer months.
Concerns Over Fine Rice Stocks in Telangana
Telangana is the only state in the country distributing fine rice to ration card holders. The state government provides six kilograms of fine rice per beneficiary every month.
After the change in government, the number of food security cards in Telangana increased significantly. The state currently has over one crore ration cards.
With the Centre suggesting a three-month allocation at once, the Telangana government is examining the availability of adequate rice stocks and the feasibility of storage and distribution.
Logistical Challenges Expected
Officials noted that similar distribution was carried out last year during the monsoon season. At that time, beneficiaries and fair price shop dealers reported operational difficulties.
While a single-phase distribution could reduce transportation costs and handling charges, storage capacity at the dealer level remains a concern.
There are also procedural challenges. For three months of allocation, beneficiaries may be required to provide biometric authentication separately for each month. Due to server-related issues, processing one card could take up to 15 to 20 minutes.
Authorities are expected to review these concerns before implementation to ensure smooth Ration Rice Distribution across the state.
The Centre’s directive aims to complete the three-month Ration Rice Distribution during April, subject to readiness at the state level.
