Hyderabad, February 28, 2025: The Telangana government has announced new admission guidelines for higher education institutions, ending the quota for Andhra Pradesh students.

According to GO MS 15, issued by Education Department Secretary Dr. Yogita Rana, 85% of seats in each course will be reserved for local students from the Osmania University (OU) area, which covers the Telangana region. The remaining 15% of seats will be open to all, but local candidates can also compete for these seats.
Who Qualifies for Admission?
To be considered a local candidate, students must meet one of the following criteria:
- They must have lived in Telangana for at least 10 years (excluding any time spent studying outside the state).
- Their parents must have lived in Telangana for at least 10 years, except for work-related reasons outside the state.
- Students whose parents work for the State or Central Government, public sector companies, local bodies, universities, or other government-related institutions in Telangana are eligible for the unreserved quota.
- Spouses of employees working in these government sectors, including recognized educational institutions, are also eligible.
Why the Change?
The admission process between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh was shared for the past 10 years under the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014. This arrangement ends this year, leading to the new guidelines.
Previously, both states followed the same admission process, where 85% of seats were reserved for local students, and the remaining 15% were open to students from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Now, with the new rules, Andhra Pradesh students will no longer have a reserved quota in Telangana colleges.
