The staff member immediately alerted colleagues and the Inspector of Police posted at the premises. Fire extinguishers were used to control the flames before fire tenders arrived.
The smoke alarm system installed in the building was activated, enabling a quick emergency response. Fire tenders reached the location within minutes and worked for several hours to douse the flames.
Officials said the situation was fully brought under control by around 1:30 pm.
Damage limited, evidence safe
Authorities stated that the Telangana Forensic Lab fire caused damage mainly to the computer forensic laboratory, training hall and a few support facilities.
However, they stressed that the majority of forensic materials, case property, and sensitive evidence were protected.
“Most forensic evidence and case-related documents remain intact. A detailed assessment of the losses is underway,” officials said in a clarification.
They urged the public and media not to spread speculation or unverified claims about destruction of records.
A formal complaint has been lodged with the local police, and an investigation is in progress to determine the exact cause of the fire.
Political reactions over Telangana Forensic Lab fire
The Telangana Forensic Lab fire also sparked political reactions, with several leaders raising concerns about the safety of sensitive data related to high-profile cases.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy expressed serious concern and asked the State government to confirm whether digital records and forensic backups were fully secured.
He emphasized that forensic and technical evidence for important cases must always have backup copies to avoid any risk of loss.
Speaking to reporters, he called for transparency and accountability, stating that public confidence depends on the protection of crucial legal evidence.
BRS demands judicial investigation
Leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) demanded a comprehensive and independent probe into the Telangana Forensic Lab fire.
They alleged that the incident could raise doubts about the safety of files connected to sensitive investigations and sought strict action if negligence is found.
Party representatives called for suspension of responsible officials and requested the government to release a detailed report on any damage to documents or digital data.
They also urged the authorities to publish a white paper explaining what materials were stored in the affected sections and whether backups exist.
Officials appeal for restraint
Meanwhile, forensic lab authorities appealed to the public to avoid rumours regarding the Telangana Forensic Lab fire. They said conclusions about the cause and impact will only be known after the police complete their investigation.
Safety audits and inspections are being carried out to ensure that the remaining infrastructure is secure and operational.
Officials reiterated that the laboratory continues to function and essential forensic services have not been disrupted.
They assured that protecting evidence and maintaining the integrity of criminal investigations remain the top priority.
Investigation underway
Police teams have begun examining the site to identify the source of the fire. Electrical faults and other technical reasons are being checked as part of the probe.
A final report is expected after a detailed forensic and technical assessment.
Until then, authorities maintain that the Telangana Forensic Lab fire caused limited structural damage and did not compromise the majority of critical evidence stored at the facility.
