Hanamkonda.14.01.2026: A shocking incident has been reported from Telangana’s Hanamkonda and Kamareddy districts, where around 500 stray dogs were poisoned to death during the first two weeks of January. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the matter and have taken action against 15 people, including seven village heads.

According to police and local media reports, the killings took place after the recent Gram Panchayat elections. Several candidates had promised residents a “dog-free village” in response to increasing complaints about stray dog attacks in the area.

Officials believe the incident was a planned and coordinated operation. The dogs were allegedly injected with a poisonous substance that caused instant death.

A disturbing video from Dharmapuri municipality in Jagtiyal district has surfaced, showing a man injecting a dog with poison. The animal collapses within a minute, and other dog carcasses can be seen lying on the street. The video triggered public outrage and demands for strict action.

Following the incident, police registered cases and began legal proceedings against those involved. Authorities stated that killing stray animals is illegal and inhuman, and those responsible will face
strict punishment under the law.

The incident came to light a day after the Supreme Court of India strongly criticised state governments for their failure to properly address the stray dog issue. The court warned that governments could be ordered to pay heavy compensation for dog-bite victims, but clearly stated that killing animals is not a legal or acceptable solution.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials have assured that further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
