Hyderabad,February,28,2026: Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company Limited registered an all-time high electricity demand on February 28 as summer conditions began earlier than usual across the state.
The peak power demand reached 6,057 megawatts, marking the highest load recorded so far in the company’s operational history.
Chairman and Managing Director Varun Reddy said the previous record demand stood at 5,816 megawatts, which was recorded on March 11 last year.
He stated that the latest figure was notable as the peak was recorded in February, indicating a sharp rise in power consumption at an early stage of the summer season.
TGNPDCL is responsible for electricity distribution in multiple districts, including Mancherial, Nirmal, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Kamareddy, Peddapalli, Jagtial, Rajanna, Hanamakonda, Warangal, Mahabubabad, Jayashankar, Jangaon, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Khammam.
Officials said uninterrupted power supply was maintained despite the surge in demand due to advance planning and coordinated field-level action.
The CMD said the company had focused on strengthening its distribution infrastructure ahead of the summer to manage higher loads efficiently.
As part of these efforts, 35 new 33/11 kV substations have been commissioned across the network.
In addition, 366 new power transformers were installed, while capacity enhancement works were completed on 7,600 existing transformers.
To address network congestion, eight overloaded 33 kV feeders were bifurcated, and around 1,200 kilometres of alternate 33 kV lines were laid.
Officials also installed 392 capacitor banks to mitigate low voltage issues in various areas, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.
Preventive maintenance activities such as transformer servicing, line inspections and correction of loose connections were carried out as part of a comprehensive summer action plan.
Essential materials have been stocked in advance to ensure quick restoration in case of faults or breakdowns.
Emergency response teams have been positioned in all divisions, supported by a dedicated monitoring mechanism for prompt grievance handling.
The CMD said electricity demand is expected to increase further during March, April and May.
He added that the company remains prepared to meet the rising demand and ensure reliable power supply to consumers during the summer months.
