Nizamabad Airport: Ministry Blames Telangana Government for Delays

The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has pointed to the Telangana government’s inaction as the primary reason for delays in setting up the much-anticipated Nizamabad airport at Jakranpally. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Muralidhar Mohol, addressed the matter in the Lok Sabha, responding to Nizamabad BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind’s questions about the project.

Telangana’s Delay in Approvals

Minister Mohol clarified that no proposal for a greenfield airport at Jakranpally had been received from the Telangana government. Although the Airport Authority of India (AAI) conducted a pre-eligibility study at six locations in Telangana, including Jakranpally, further progress hinges on essential permissions.

“Obstacle Limitation Surveys (OLS) must be conducted, and approvals from the Union Civil Aviation Ministry and other statutory bodies are mandatory,” Mohol stated.

Identified sites include potential brownfield airports in Warangal and Adilabad, alongside the proposed Nizamabad airport. However, lack of action from the state government has hindered advancement.

MP Arvind Pushes for Action

During his meeting with Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu in New Delhi, MP Dharmapuri Arvind emphasized the urgent need to address delays. He urged the Telangana government to expedite the OLS survey and other regulatory requirements.

“The state government must immediately react and complete the necessary formalities to ensure airport construction begins,” Arvind said.

Political Negligence Alleged

Arvind accused former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and current CM A. Revanth Reddy of ignoring critical steps for the Nizamabad airport project. He also called upon TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud and Congress MLAs to take proactive measures at the state level.

The Road Ahead for Nizamabad Airport

  • The Telangana government must conduct an OLS survey.
  • Approvals must be secured from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and regulatory bodies.
  • Collaboration between state and central governments is essential to meet timelines.

If completed, the Nizamabad airport will significantly boost regional connectivity and economic development.

Conclusion

The development of the Nizamabad airport has the potential to transform the region’s transportation infrastructure. However, delays due to administrative hurdles remain a major roadblock. The ball is now in the Telangana government’s court to act swiftly and realize this long-pending dream for the people of Nizamabad.
