Telangana’s Comprehensive Caste Census: A Step Towards Socio-Economic Empowerment

Hyderabad.12.10.2024: In a significant move, the Telangana government has initiated a comprehensive caste census, aiming to collect granular data on the socio-economic status of various communities in the state. This ambitious project, approved by the Telangana Assembly, will enable evidence-based policy interventions to bridge development gaps .

Key Objectives:

Socio-Economic Upliftment: Gather data on education levels, income, employment, and political representation to drive customized initiatives.
Caste Data Collation: Capture disaggregated statistics for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs).
Welfare Planning: Address inequality and poverty through calibrated reservations in jobs and education, financial inclusion, and monitoring political presence.

The Survey Process:

A door-to-door household survey will be conducted, with the planning department responsible for its execution. The survey must be completed within 60 days, as per the order issued by CS Shantikumari.

This comprehensive caste census will provide valuable insights into the ground reality of Telangana’s diverse communities. By understanding their social, economic, educational, and employment status, the government can create targeted affirmative actions to promote socio-economic empowerment.
