Hyderabad.10.09.2024: Telangana has received approval to establish eight new government medical colleges, bringing the total number of such colleges in the state to 34. This announcement was made by Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha on Tuesday, September 10.
The new medical colleges will be set up in the districts of Mulugu, Narsampet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Narayanpet, Yadadri Bhongir, Medak, Maheshwaram, and Qutbullapur. Each of these colleges will offer 50 MBBS seats, adding a total of 400 new seats to the state’s capacity. With this addition, the total number of MBBS seats available in government medical colleges across Telangana will increase to 4,090.
Earlier, the Telangana State government had applied for approval to open these eight new colleges. However, during an inspection in June, the National Medical Commission (NMC) found that the colleges lacked sufficient facilities and staff. Due to these deficiencies, the NMC initially withheld approval and issued a show-cause notice, asking the state to address these issues before granting permission.
After fulfilling the necessary requirements, the NMC has now approved the new medical colleges for the current academic year.
