Hyderabad.28.09.2024: The Telangana High Court has dismissed a petition filed by former BRS minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, who sought to dismiss an FIR related to electoral offenses from the 2014 state assembly elections.
At that time, Kumar, then a Congress candidate representing Khammam, was accused of distributing liquor and cricket kits to influence voters. These items were seized by the Election Commission’s flying squad, prompting police action. Kumar has consistently denied the allegations, stating that he was not at the location where the items were found.
In 2014, Kumar challenged the FIR, and the investigation was temporarily halted by the High Court. However, after he switched to the BRS party and became transport minister, the case remained inactive for almost a decade.
On Friday, Justice K Lakshman rejected Kumar’s plea to quash the FIR and instructed the police to resume the investigation as per the law.
