Telangana Schools to Shut Down on November 30th: SFI Protests Food Poisoning Incidents

Hyderabad,28.11.2024 : The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) Telangana committee has announced a bandh for all government schools in Telangana on November 30th. This drastic action is a direct response to a series of food poisoning incidents plaguing government-run schools across the state, coupled with what the SFI alleges is a negligent response from the Telangana state government.

RL Murthy, president of the SFI Telangana committee, voiced strong criticism on Thursday, highlighting the concerning lack of action from the state government despite reported student deaths resulting from food poisoning in both welfare residential and government schools. He emphasized the severity of the situation and the continued inaction despite numerous incidents.

Adding to the concerns, T Nagaraju, general secretary of the SFI Telangana committee, pointed out the prolonged absence of an Education Minister for over a year. This leadership vacuum, he argued, has resulted in a complete lack of review and resolution of the ongoing issues faced by students in Telangana’s government schools. The bandh, they jointly stated, is a necessary protest against this government negligence.

The SFI is demanding immediate intervention from the Chief Minister. Their demands include a comprehensive review of the education department, encompassing hostels and welfare institutions, and a swift resolution to long-standing problems within the system. Crucially, they are also calling for the immediate appointment of a new Education Minister for Telangana. The bandh on November 30th serves as a powerful demonstration of the SFI’s commitment to student safety and well-being in Telangana.
