Bharat Bandh Today

People across the state are checking whether schools, banks, government offices and transport services will function normally.

Why Is Bharat Bandh Being Held Today?

The Bharat Bandh has been called by a joint forum of central trade unions. Farmer groups, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), are supporting the strike.

They are protesting against the recently announced India–US trade agreement.

Farmer leaders say the agreement may allow cheaper foreign agricultural goods into India. They fear this could reduce the income of Indian farmers and affect their livelihoods.

SKM Convenor Hannan Mollah called the agreement harmful to farmers. Farmer organisations held awareness programs from February 4 to February 11 before announcing the nationwide bandh today.

However, the Central government has defended the agreement. Union Minister Piyush Goyal said important agricultural sectors like dairy, food grains, vegetables and spices are protected. He also clarified that genetically modified food products will not be allowed under the deal.

The government stated that Indian farm products will get zero-duty access to the US market, while US agricultural goods will not receive tariff benefits in India.

What Will Remain Open in Telangana?

As of now, there is no official holiday announcement from the Telangana government.
