Hyderabad | February 26, 2025: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, requesting quick approvals for the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project. The State Government plans to extend the metro across five corridors, covering 76.4 km at an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore.

The CM informed the Prime Minister that the previous government had neglected metro expansion for ten years. He urged the Centre to grant approvals quickly to improve public transportation in Hyderabad.
Support for Regional Ring Road (RRR) and Ring Rail
Mr. Reddy also sought approval for the southern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR), stating that 90% of land acquisition for the northern section is complete. He assured that the Telangana government is willing to bear 50% of land acquisition costs for the southern side.
Additionally, the State plans to develop a Regional Ring Rail along the RRR to improve connectivity between different train routes. A dry port near the RRR is also proposed to enhance the movement of goods, with requests for a greenfield highway and a railway line connecting it to ports in Andhra Pradesh.
Assistance for Musi River and Gandhi Sarovar Project
The CM sought ₹20,000 crore in central assistance for the Musi River Rejuvenation Project, which includes:
- Development of Bapu Ghat at the confluence of the Esa and Musi rivers.
- Construction of 27 sewage treatment plants (STPs) to clean the river.
- Building bunds and retaining walls along the riverbanks.
He also requested the Centre’s help for the Godavari-Musi river linking project and the transfer of 222.7 acres of defence land for the Gandhi Sarovar Project.
Demand for More IPS Cadre Posts
The Chief Minister asked for 29 additional IPS cadre posts to strengthen law enforcement, tackle cybercrime, and address the rising cases of drug-related offenses. Telangana was initially allotted 61 IPS cadre posts after bifurcation, with 15 more added in 2015. However, due to the State’s growing urban population, more officers are needed.
India Semiconductor Mission in Telangana
Lastly, Mr. Reddy sought the Prime Minister’s support in establishing the India Semiconductor Mission in Telangana, emphasizing that the State has the necessary skilled workforce and infrastructure to support the project.
