According to the Telangana State Election Commission, Congress won 1,526 wards, while BRS finished second with 772 wards. The overall voter turnout stood at 73.01%.

Congress Gains Clear Edge in Telangana Municipal Polls 2026 Results

The Telangana Municipal Polls 2026 Results confirmed a strong performance by the Congress party in urban local bodies. Out of 2,958 wards declared, Congress crossed the halfway mark comfortably.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) secured second position with 772 wards. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 326 wards, while AIMIM and CPI(M) registered limited victories.

Counting began at 8:00 a.m. on February 13 with postal ballots. Regular ballots were taken up round-wise after completion of postal ballot counting.

Voter Turnout and Poll Details

The elections were conducted on February 11, 2026, in 116 Municipalities and seven Municipal Corporations across Telangana.

Out of 52,17,413 eligible voters, 38,09,406 people exercised their franchise. The final voter turnout was recorded at 73.01%.

In Municipalities, the highest polling of 91.91% was recorded in Choutuppal Municipality of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. The lowest polling of 59.66% was recorded in Nandikonda Urban Local Body of Nalgonda district.

District-Wise Trends in Telangana Municipal Polls 2026 Results

Vikarabad District

Congress won three out of four Municipalities in Vikarabad district. In Parigi Municipality, both Congress and BRS secured eight wards each.

  • Total Wards: 100
  • Congress: 54
  • BRS: 32
  • BJP: 7
  • AIMIM: 3
  • Independents: 4

Sangareddy District

BRS secured a majority of wards in six out of 11 Municipalities. Congress won the remaining five Municipalities.

Jogulamba Gadwal District

BRS won 30 wards, while Congress secured 29 in a close contest. BJP won seven wards, AIFB eight, and Independents two.

Khammam District

Congress secured a strong victory in Madhira Municipality by winning 18 out of 22 wards. BRS won one ward, and three wards went to Independents.

Wanaparthy District

Out of 61 declared wards, Congress won 36. BRS secured 15 wards, BJP seven, and others won the remaining seats.

Swearing-In Ceremony on February 16

The elected Councillors and Corporators will take oath on February 16 at 11:30 a.m. A special meeting will be conducted afterward to elect Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Chairpersons, and Vice-Chairpersons.

Security and Monitoring During Counting

Officials monitored the counting process through webcasting across districts. Strict security arrangements were made at counting centres.

The State Police warned that strict action would be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt the counting process or misbehave with officials.

Steady Lead Throughout the Day

The Telangana Municipal Polls 2026 Results showed Congress maintaining a steady lead from the initial rounds. Early trends at 4:54 p.m. indicated Congress ahead with over 1,400 wards.

As counting progressed, the lead widened further. By 6:00 p.m., Congress had crossed 1,490 wards, consolidating its position.

The final tally confirmed Congress victory in 1,526 wards, marking a significant urban mandate.

Political Reactions

Following the results, senior party leaders expressed satisfaction over the performance. The outcome places Congress firmly ahead in urban local bodies across Telangana.
