Jerusalem, March 13, 2026: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Iran’s leadership could face potential military action as tensions escalate in the region. Speaking on March 13, Netanyahu suggested that even Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei may not be immune from possible Israeli strikes.
During remarks about the ongoing conflict, Netanyahu said there is no certainty that Iranian citizens would rise against the government in Tehran even if Israel attempts to create conditions that might encourage such unrest. He added that Israel would continue actions aimed at weakening the current leadership.
Netanyahu said Israel would work to create what he described as optimal conditions for the Iranian public to challenge the ruling system. These efforts include continued airstrikes that Israel says are targeting Iranian positions.
When asked whether Israel could target Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, Netanyahu responded cautiously. He said he would not take out a life insurance policy on any leader connected to what Israel considers terror organizations. He also claimed that Israel has several unexpected steps planned as part of its ongoing campaign.
The Israeli leader said operations against Iranian targets are progressing better than expected. He also highlighted close coordination with the United States during the ongoing military campaign.
Netanyahu said his relationship with US President Donald Trump remains strong. According to Netanyahu, the two leaders communicate frequently and exchange ideas and advice while making decisions related to the conflict.
He added that Israel is also trying to strengthen partnerships with countries across the Middle East during the crisis. Netanyahu said his government is working to build new regional alliances that would have seemed unlikely only weeks earlier.
Netanyahu also issued a warning to Lebanon regarding the activities of Hezbollah. He said Israel could launch further military action if the Lebanese government does not take steps to limit the group’s operations.
The Israeli prime minister said Lebanon has the option to prevent escalation by acting against Hezbollah. If that does not happen, he warned that Israel would respond and impose what he described as a heavy price.
Netanyahu said Israel remains committed to protecting communities near its northern border and indicated that discussions currently underway are focused on practical action rather than diplomacy alone.
The remarks come amid rising tensions involving Israel, Iran and allied groups across the region. Military operations and warnings between the sides have increased in recent days, raising concerns about a wider conflict.
