The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert as an active weather system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to influence coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and parts of Telangana. Fishermen have been advised to remain cautious as rough sea conditions and strong winds are expected along parts of the coast.
According to the latest IMD bulletin, weather conditions over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas remain active. Strong winds of around 40 to 50 kmph, occasionally reaching 60 kmph, are possible over parts of the north Bay of Bengal and nearby coastal areas through August 19 morning.
Fishermen Advised to Avoid Sea
The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas during the period of adverse weather. Sea conditions are expected to remain rough in several areas before gradually improving.
Coastal Andhra Pradesh may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds during the coming days. People living in coastal districts have been advised to follow updates issued by the IMD and local disaster management authorities.
Rain Expected in Telangana
Telangana is also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall in several areas. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching around 30 to 40 kmph in parts of the state during August 18 and 19.
Farmers and residents in areas likely to receive thunderstorms are advised to remain alert during periods of strong winds and lightning. People should avoid standing under trees, near electricity poles, hoardings or weak structures during thunderstorms.
Will It Become a Major Cyclone?
There is currently no official IMD confirmation that the system will develop into a major cyclone. The weather agency is continuing to monitor the system and will issue further updates if its intensity or movement changes.
