Hyderabad.18.10.2024: The Telangana government has mandated hospitals across the state with 100 beds or more to establish a hospital security committee and a violence prevention committee. This directive, issued under the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) and the director of medical health, aims to enhance safety and security in hospitals across Telangana.

Hospital security committee and violence prevention measures implemented in Telangana hospitals
Hospitals in Telangana enhance security with new committees for safety and violence prevention.

Key measures outlined include conducting a comprehensive security audit, mapping restricted and public areas, and ensuring proper barricades. Hospitals are also required to improve facilities such as restrooms, duty rooms, and lighting, while introducing a visitor policy and baggage screening. CCTV coverage must be expanded where needed, with the retention of footage mandated for security purposes.

“A security audit will ensure the presence of adequate personnel inside and outside the hospital during all shifts. Additionally, issues with CCTV systems must be addressed promptly, and more cameras installed as per audit findings,” said a senior health official.

To further bolster security, hospitals are instructed to coordinate with local police and set up 24×7 control rooms. The violence prevention committee will work on raising awareness about laws against assaulting medical staff and sexual harassment, alongside developing protocols for swift complaint filings in case of attacks on healthcare workers.

Hospital staff, including doctors, will receive regular conflict management training as part of this initiative. Compliance reports from hospital superintendents are expected to ensure timely implementation of these measures across Telangana.
