Due to concerns about possible disruptions in the storage and transportation of food grains during the upcoming monsoon season starting in June, the Center has decided that all states and Union Territories must distribute enough food grains to last until August 2025 in advance. This decision is part of the National Food Security Act.

Rahul Singh, Deputy Director of the Union Ministry of Food and Public Distribution, sent a letter to the Principal Secretaries of the Civil Supplies Departments of all states. In this letter, he instructed that food grains for the months of June, July, and August should be made available to beneficiaries by May 30. He also directed the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to ensure sufficient stock in warehouses and work closely with state governments to make this plan successful.

Three Months’ Supply to Be Given in June

The state government has informed the Center that it will release the three-month quota in June, following the completion of ration distribution for April. To meet the three-month demand, around 5 lakh metric tonnes of rice will be needed, with an average of 1.75 lakh metric tonnes required per month.

Since the state distributes fine rice, the Civil Supplies Department is preparing to collect the required fine rice from warehouses and begin distributing the three-month ration next month.
