The decision was taken after laboratory tests found the presence of Ethylene Glycol, a toxic chemical that can be harmful, especially to children.

Why the Syrup Is Unsafe

A sample of the syrup was tested at the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) laboratory in Kolkata. The test confirmed contamination with Ethylene Glycol, which is not permitted in medicines.

  • Use: Treatment of allergy symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, itching, swelling, and nasal congestion

  • Manufacturing Location: Vaishali district, Bihar

Instructions to Sellers and Hospitals

The DCA has directed all drug inspectors across Telangana to immediately alert medical stores, wholesalers, distributors, and hospitals. Any available stock of the affected batch must be frozen and should not be sold or used under any circumstances.

Public Advisory

Parents and guardians who have this syrup at home are strongly advised to stop using it immediately and report the medicine to the nearest Drugs Control Authority.

Background

After previous incidents involving contaminated syrups, the Telangana government has made mandatory testing
for Diethylene Glycol and Ethylene Glycol in all liquid medicines to ensure public safety.
