Chennai,April 03,2026: The BJP candidate list 2026 for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections was released on April 3. The party announced 27 candidates for the upcoming elections, but former state president Annamalai is not contesting.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in alliance with the AIADMK. Out of the 27 candidates announced by the party, five seats have been allotted to women candidates.
The women candidates include Tamilisai Soundararajan, Vanathi Srinivasan, Kirthika Shivkumar, Kavitha Srikanth, and Vijayadharani. The announcement was delayed as the party leadership attempted to persuade Annamalai to contest, but he declined to enter the election race.
Annamalai had earlier expressed dissatisfaction over seat sharing with alliance partner AIADMK, stating that the BJP was allotted constituencies where the party has limited presence. He had previously contested from Aravakurichi in the 2021 Assembly elections and from Coimbatore in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections but lost both contests.
