Mumbai,March,15,2026: Mumbai Police have issued a warning about a growing gas cylinder booking scam targeting LPG users. The alert was issued on March 15 after cyber officials noticed fraudsters circulating malicious mobile files posing as gas company apps.

Gas Cylinder Booking Scam

The warning comes as scammers attempt to exploit the LPG booking and delivery verification system by sending suspicious APK files to consumers.

According to the cyber cell of Mumbai Police, fraudsters are sending APK files from unknown mobile numbers that appear to be from gas providers such as Mahanagar Gas Limited or HP Gas. These files are designed to trick users into believing they are official applications related to LPG cylinder booking.

A cyber officer from Kandivali Police Station said that downloading such APK files could compromise a user’s mobile device. If installed, the file may allow cyber criminals to access personal information or financial details stored on the phone.

Police officials have urged citizens not to download or open APK files received through unknown numbers or messaging platforms. Authorities clarified that gas companies do not send application files directly to customers for booking or verification.

The police also explained that LPG cylinder deliveries under the current system are verified through an OTP process. After a customer books a cylinder, a one time password is sent via SMS to the registered mobile number to confirm delivery.

Officials advised residents to rely only on official booking channels and SMS notifications sent from verified sources.

The cyber cell has requested citizens to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious messages, links, or application files related to LPG booking.

This warning comes amid increasing demand for LPG cylinders and the rollout of OTP based delivery confirmation systems across gas distributors.

Mumbai Police said public awareness and prompt reporting of such fraud attempts will help authorities prevent cybercrime and protect consumers from financial loss.
