Shimla,April 11,2026: Weather conditions across kullu weather and other parts of Himachal Pradesh turned unusually cold in April following continuous rainfall and snowfall. The drop in temperature was recorded over the past few days, with significant changes observed on April 11.

In Shimla, the minimum temperature fell to 3.6°C, marking the coldest April night in over four decades. According to the Meteorological Centre, this is one of the lowest temperatures recorded in April since 1979.

Officials from the India Meteorological Department said persistent rainfall and snowfall over the last two to three days caused a sharp decline in temperatures across the state. The maximum temperature in Shimla was recorded at 11.4°C, the lowest daytime temperature for April in around 11 to 12 years.

Senior scientist Shobhit Katiyar said that such low night temperatures in April had not been seen in decades. He noted that similar conditions were last observed in 1979, indicating a rare weather pattern.

The impact of western disturbances was visible across Himachal Pradesh, with widespread rainfall and snowfall in higher altitude regions. Over the past few days, daytime temperatures in many areas dropped by 10 to 12 degrees Celsius.

Rainfall levels have also remained above normal. Between March 1 and April 10, the state recorded 149 mm of rainfall against the usual 136 mm. In April alone, rainfall has been significantly higher than average.

Snowfall during April is considered normal in higher regions such as Lahaul, Kullu, Chamba, and Kinnaur. Areas in Shimla district have also experienced snowfall in previous years during April.

The weather department has forecast clearer conditions for plains and mid hill regions over the next five to seven days. However, light rain or snowfall may continue in isolated higher altitude areas.

A fresh western disturbance is expected between April 16 and 18, though its impact is likely to remain limited. No heavy rainfall or snowfall is currently predicted, and overall weather conditions are expected to stay stable in the coming days.
