Chennai,April 23,2026: Tamil Nadu voter turnout reached 82.24 percent as of 5 PM on April 23, 2026, according to the latest official update. Voting is still continuing in some areas as tokens have already been issued to voters.

Tamil Nadu Voter Turnout

The State recorded a significant polling percentage across its 38 districts. Out of these, 30 districts reported more than 80 percent voter participation, reflecting strong public engagement in the electoral process.

This turnout has surpassed the previous record set in 2011, when Tamil Nadu recorded 78 percent polling after delimitation. The current figures indicate a notable increase in voter participation compared to past elections.

Among the districts, Karur registered the highest turnout at 89 percent. The western regions of the State reported higher voting percentages compared to other parts.

In Chennai district, voter turnout reached 83.44 percent. Out of the 16 constituencies in the district, 12 recorded more than 80 percent polling, showing consistent participation across urban areas.

Except for eight districts, all others crossed the 80 percent mark. Officials noted that polling is still ongoing in some locations where voters who received tokens before closing time are yet to cast their votes.

The earlier benchmark for voter turnout in Tamil Nadu was recorded in 2011 following constituency delimitation. The current figures indicate that the State has exceeded that milestone.

Polling authorities confirmed that the process will continue until all token holders have voted, ensuring that no eligible voter is left out.
