Chennai,May 07,2026: Actor-turned-politician Vijay is continuing efforts to form the next government in Tamil Nadu after the 2026 Assembly election results. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, or TVK, is seeking additional support as the party remains short of the majority mark.
The development comes amid an ongoing deadlock between the TVK and Governor RV Arlekar over government formation in the state.
Vijay’s party has reportedly reached out to Kamaraj S, the lone winning MLA from the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam led by TTV Dhinakaran. The move is aimed at increasing support for the TVK, which emerged as the single largest force in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The TVK won 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly. The majority mark in the House is 118, leaving the party 10 seats short of forming the government on its own.
The Congress has already extended support to the TVK, adding five MLAs to Vijay’s side. The party has also approached allies of the DMK, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Left parties.
VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan said party leaders would meet to discuss the request for support. He told reporters that the party’s high-level committee would take a final decision after consultations.
Meanwhile, outgoing Chief Minister MK Stalin has reportedly allowed smaller DMK allies to decide independently whether they want to support Vijay. According to reports, the DMK leadership wants political stability in the state and does not want another election.
The political uncertainty intensified after Vijay met Governor RV Arlekar to stake claim to form the government. Sources said the governor questioned how the TVK planned to run an administration without a clear majority.
Vijay is said to have expressed readiness for a floor test in the Assembly. However, the governor reportedly asked the party to prove majority support before any oath-taking ceremony.
The TVK’s rise has reshaped Tamil Nadu politics by ending the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK in the state. The party is now continuing discussions with regional allies and independent legislators to secure the numbers required to form the next government.
Meetings among alliance parties are expected to continue on Friday
