England captain Harry Brook won the toss and chose to bowl first. India lost Abhishek Sharma early, but Sanju Samson stabilized the innings with attacking batting.

Samson scored 89 runs off 42 balls, hitting seven sixes and eight fours. He narrowly missed a century but maintained a high scoring rate throughout his innings. His performance helped India recover after the early wicket.

Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dube provided support during the middle overs. The partnerships allowed India to maintain momentum after the powerplay.

Sanju Samson reached his half century in just 26 balls. His aggressive approach during the powerplay helped India score heavily in the first six overs.

During the powerplay, India scored 67 runs, with Samson contributing 41 runs. With this effort, he surpassed Virender Sehwag’s record of 40 runs scored in a T20 World Cup powerplay for India. Sehwag had achieved that mark against New Zealand during the 2007 tournament.

With the 41-run contribution in the powerplay, Samson also matched Rohit Sharma in the list of Indian players with the highest individual powerplay scores in the T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma had scored 41 runs in the powerplay against West Indies in the 2016 edition.

Rohit Sharma still holds the highest individual powerplay score for India in the tournament, with 51 runs against Australia during the 2024 T20 World Cup. KL Rahul is second on the list after scoring 50 runs against Scotland in the 2021 tournament.

The T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final between India and England is being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The result of the match will decide which team advances to the final of the tournament.
