CM Revanth Launches Telangana Sports Policy, Aims for Olympic Gold

August 3, 2025 | 3:14 PM : Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced a new Telangana Sports Policy to help produce Olympic gold medalists. The state also plans to host major international sports events, including the National Games within the next two years.

The government will create a Telangana Sports Hub, managed by a Board of Governors that includes corporate leaders, athletes, and officials. This board will oversee the Telangana Sports Development Fund (TSDF) to handle sports infrastructure, training, and outreach programs.

Key Highlights of the Sports Policy:

  • ₹321 crore allocated in the 2025 budget for athletes, including para-athletes, women, and rural sportspersons.
  • Mini stadiums to be built in all 119 Assembly constituencies.
  • Sports university in Hyderabad to be set up under public-private partnership.
  • Discussions underway with BCCI to build a new international cricket stadium in Begumpet.

At the Telangana Sports Conclave on August 2, CM Revanth said,

“This sports policy is not just a document—it’s a commitment to win Olympic gold for India.”

Major Infrastructure Plans:

Key sports facilities to be merged into one Sports Hub:

  • Lal Bahadur Stadium
  • Hakimpet Sports School
  • Kotla Vijay Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium
  • Saroornagar Indoor Stadium
  • Osmania University Velodrome

Residential sports academies will be built for SC, ST, BC, and Minority communities. A new university called Young India Physical Education and Sports University (YIPESU) will be launched in Hyderabad, modeled on top international sports universities.

Athlete Support:

  • Special coaching for para-athletes, rural youth, and women athletes
  • Sports schools in each Lok Sabha constituency
  • Young India Sports Academy for professional coaching and mentorship
  • Big rewards and career support for athletes

CM Revanth stated that Telangana is committed to dreaming big and winning big in the world of sports.
