Bhadrachalam, Sep 2, 2025: The Godavari River, which had been flowing at threatening levels for the past three days, has started receding at Bhadrachalam. The water level, which was 48.10 feet on Sunday night, dropped to 42.05 feet on Monday. With this, authorities have withdrawn both the second and first danger warnings in the region.
Godavari Situation at Bhadrachalam and Dhavaleswaram
At Bhadrachalam, the river water has reduced significantly, bringing relief to locals and officials. Meanwhile, at the Dhavaleswaram Cotton Barrage, the Godavari water level stabilized at 13.10 feet. However, the first danger alert continues as 11,79,236 cusecs of water are being released into the sea through 175 gates. Officials also warned that flood levels may rise again by Monday night.
Flood Impact Across Andhra Districts
Moderate to heavy rains continued across North Andhra due to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram, Manyam, Visakhapatnam, and Anakapalle districts witnessed heavy downpours, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas. In Visakhapatnam, rainwater entered parts of Bhimunipatnam, Maddilapalem, and Gajuwaka.
Traffic Disruptions in Polavaram and Lanka Villages
In West Godavari, the Sabari River is flowing violently, cutting off road connectivity to 12 villages in Kukkunuru mandal and 15 villages in Velerupadu mandal. Several Lanka villages including Kanakayalanka, Pedalanka, Lakshmipalem, and Gangadapalem were submerged, disrupting traffic and damaging coconut and vegetable farms. Around 50 villages in V.R. Puram, Kunavaram, Chintur, and Etapaka were also affected, forcing many residents to move to rehabilitation centers.
Krishna River Inflow and Srisailam Water Release
Due to heavy inflows from Jurala and Sunkesula, water levels at the Srisailam reservoir rose to 882.10 feet against the full level of 885 feet. Authorities opened 10 gates, releasing 2,67,440 cusecs of water to Nagarjunasagar. The reservoir currently holds 199.73 TMC of water against its full capacity of 215 TMC. At Prakasam Barrage, the inflow stood at 3,42,398 cusecs with an outflow of 3,28,125 cusecs.
