Hyderabad Pothole Protest

The protest took place on Sunday evening near the Gowliguda area and briefly affected traffic movement. Police personnel intervened and tried to persuade the protester to move away from the road so that traffic could be regulated.

Protest highlights pothole problem

The man, identified in local reports as Feroze, chose to sit or lie inside a large pothole to highlight the condition of the road. A video of the incident circulated on social media, bringing renewed attention to complaints about damaged roads in parts of Hyderabad’s Old City.

The Imlibun–Putlibowli stretch is an important route connecting the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station area with Koti and Chaderghat. Residents and commuters have reported difficulties while travelling on roads affected by potholes and damaged surfaces, with two-wheeler riders facing particular challenges.

Traffic disrupted during protest

The demonstration temporarily disrupted traffic on the busy road. Police later moved the protester away from the middle of the road and worked to restore normal traffic movement.

The incident has also renewed concerns about road conditions in areas including Putlibowli, Koti, Imlibun and Chaderghat. Recent reports have highlighted how potholes and waterlogging continue to create difficulties for commuters in several parts of Hyderabad during the monsoon season.

GHMC repair response

Reports on the incident said civic authorities had carried out temporary work on the affected stretch, including filling potholes and levelling uneven portions. A permanent solution involving a concrete cement road has also been proposed, subject to the required traffic-related permissions.

The unusual protest has brought public attention to the need for timely maintenance of damaged roads, particularly on busy routes used by large numbers of motorists and pedestrians every day.
