Telangana Women and Child Welfare Minister Seethakka met Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi in New Delhi and submitted representations on several key issues concerning women and child welfare in the state. The proposals focused on strengthening Anganwadi services, improving nutritional support for children and adolescent girls, and increasing financial assistance for Anganwadi workers.
During the meeting, Seethakka informed the Union Minister that the Telangana government has been successfully implementing a breakfast and milk distribution programme for children through Anganwadi centres. She said the initiative has played an important role in addressing malnutrition among young children and requested financial support from the Central Government to continue and expand the programme.
Request to Increase Central Share in Anganwadi Workers’ Honorarium
The Telangana minister also sought an increase in the Central Government’s contribution towards the honorarium paid to Anganwadi teachers and helpers. She stated that the Centre currently bears only about 20 percent of the expenditure and urged that the share be enhanced in view of rising living costs.
Proposal for Rs 100 Crore to Combat Anaemia
Another representation submitted by Seethakka sought Rs 100 crore from the Central Government to implement a special nutrition programme aimed at reducing anaemia among adolescent girls. The proposal includes the distribution of special nutritional food to improve the health and nutritional status of teenage girls across the state.
