Hyderabad.01.02.2026 : Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday criticized the Union Budget 2026–27, stating that Telangana received no significant allocations from the Centre. He termed the move unfair and disappointing for the state’s development.
Addressing a media conference, Bhatti said the complete omission of funds for Telangana reflects a negligent attitude despite repeated appeals made by the state government.
Key Highlights
- No specific allocations for Telangana in Union Budget
- Funds sought for Musi River, Metro expansion, and Regional Ring Road ignored
- Biopharma, electronics, sports and tourism sectors overlooked
- State leaders to meet Prime Minister and Finance Minister for justice
Telangana Expresses Disappointment Over Budget
Speaking to reporters, Bhatti said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with Cabinet ministers and Members of Parliament, had repeatedly met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to seek financial support for Telangana.
Despite multiple representations and detailed proposals, the Union Budget failed to allocate funds to the state. Bhatti said this had caused deep disappointment among the people.
He described the situation as “injustice to Telangana” and said the Centre must reconsider its approach.
Major Development Projects Left Out
The Deputy CM said Telangana expected funding for several crucial infrastructure and development projects, including:
- Musi River rejuvenation project
- Regional Ring Road construction
- Hyderabad city development works
- Metro Rail expansion
However, none of these proposals found mention in the Budget.
Biopharma and Electronics Sectors Ignored
Bhatti pointed out that Hyderabad has emerged as a national hub for the biopharma sector. He said Telangana played a vital role during the Covid-19 pandemic by supporting vaccine and medicine production.
Despite this strength, the state did not receive priority when the Centre discussed new investments in biopharma.
Similarly, Telangana was excluded from the Rs 40,000-crore electronics manufacturing push, even though Hyderabad hosts a strong ecosystem with institutions such as ECIL.
Concerns Over Sports, Tourism and Healthcare
The Deputy CM said the state has been actively promoting sports through global events and the Telangana Rising Vision 2047 roadmap. Yet, no dedicated support was extended in the Union Budget.
He also noted that Hyderabad is emerging as a medical tourism destination, attracting patients from across India and abroad. Still, Telangana was left out of the proposed Regional Medical Value Hub initiative.
The tourism sector too received little attention despite attractions such as the UNESCO-listed Ramappa Temple, waterfalls, forest reserves and major religious events.
Focus Needed on Rare Earth and Semiconductor Projects
Bhatti urged the Centre to support rare earth mineral exploration in Telangana, where Singareni Collieries is processing minerals like lithium and scandium.
He said proposals for semiconductor manufacturing units, submitted by the Chief Minister and industries department, remain pending while other states received approvals.
Impact on Welfare and Rural Employment
The Deputy CM expressed concern that weaker allocations for SC, ST and minority communities would affect social welfare programmes. He also criticized the reduction in support for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, which could impact rural livelihoods.
Bhatti said Telangana aims to grow into a $3 trillion economy, but such progress requires strong financial backing from the Centre.
State to Seek Centre’s Intervention
The state government will seek fresh meetings with the Prime Minister and Finance Minister during the Budget Session. Bhatti also appealed to all Telangana MPs to jointly press for fair allocations.
“We will continue fighting until Telangana gets its rightful share,” he said.
