Telangana Police Dial 112 was launched on Wednesday as the state’s next generation Telangana Emergency Response Support System. The platform brings police, fire, ambulance, women safety, child protection, disaster response and other emergency services under a single emergency number to provide a unified response across Telangana.
The upgraded system is powered by artificial intelligence and advanced location technologies. According to Telangana Police, the new platform has reduced overall call centre processing time by nearly 30 percent while improving emergency response management.
The Telangana Emergency Response Support System prioritises calls based on the severity of emergencies. It filters duplicate and non emergency calls, identifies the caller’s location, automatically dispatches the nearest available response unit and supports voice to text transcription, real time monitoring and performance analytics.
Director General of Police CV Anand, while launching the platform, said Dial 112 will serve as the first point of contact for citizens during emergencies. He described the initiative as a comprehensive transformation of Telangana’s emergency response architecture rather than just a software upgrade.
According to the police, the average time taken by call takers has been reduced from 100 seconds to 69 seconds, while dispatcher time has dropped from 90 seconds to 64 seconds. Overall call centre processing time has come down from 190 seconds to 133 seconds.
The DGP said Telangana records an average emergency response time of about six minutes in urban areas, 15 minutes in rural areas and 10 minutes and 30 seconds across the state. He said the national average emergency response time is around 18 minutes.
The Dial 112 Centre operates round the clock with 164 trained personnel and 900 SIP based communication channels. It receives nearly 14 lakh Interactive Voice Response calls every day. Around 18,000 emergency calls are handled by call takers daily, while about 7,500 incidents are dispatched to field units. The system also filters unintended, child, blank, spam and silent calls to improve operational efficiency.
A total of 1,860 patrol vehicles, including 788 four wheelers and 1,072 two wheelers, have been digitally integrated with the platform across all 31 police units in Telangana. The system automatically recommends the nearest available patrol vehicle, allowing faster deployment and continuous monitoring of incidents until they are closed.
As part of the next phase of modernisation, Telangana Police will introduce AI enabled drones on a pilot basis in the Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri and Future City commissionerates. The drones will function as aerial first responders by providing real time visual intelligence during disasters, law and order situations, search and rescue operations, crowd related incidents and other emergencies.
