Hyderabad,March,21,2026: Telangana Population 2026 is projected to reach 3.87 crore as of July 1, 2026, according to the Technical Group on Population Projections report. The data shows steady population growth with a low growth rate compared to other Indian states.
The report states that the total population of Telangana in 2026 will be 38,665,000. Out of this, the male population is projected at 19.43 million and the female population at 19.24 million. The state will have about 195,000 more males than females.
The population growth rate in 2026 is projected at 0.43 percent, making it one of the lowest growth rates among Indian states. Telangana is expected to add around 166,000 people in 2026.
Telangana accounts for 2.70 percent of India’s total population. This share is slightly lower than the peak population share recorded in 1991.
According to Census 2011 data, Telangana’s population was 3.52 crore, which increased from 3.10 crore in 2001. The population increased by 4.21 million between 2001 and 2011, with a decadal growth rate of 13.58 percent.
Population projections show that Telangana’s population will continue to grow slowly and is expected to reach around 3.95 crore by 2036.
Historical data shows significant population growth in Telangana over the past century. The population increased from about 5.97 million in 1901 to 38.67 million in 2026, growing more than six times during this period.
The report indicates that Telangana is currently the 13th most populous state in India and one of the most populous states in South India.
Population projections for the coming years show gradual growth with small yearly increases until 2036, indicating a stable population trend in the state.
