Telangana teacher Bhavani Bompelly of MPPS Girls Gandhari has been selected for the National Teachers Award 2026, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 5, Teachers’ Day.
Bompelly is among the school teachers selected for the national honour for their contribution to school education and student development. The Union Ministry of Education’s National Teachers Awards programme recognises teachers who demonstrate excellence, innovation and commitment to improving the quality of education.
According to the report, Bompelly has focused on joyful and activity-based teaching, with particular attention to mathematics, academics and the overall development of students. She has also introduced technical learning initiatives for students.
Bompelly joined government service in 2008 and received the State Best Teacher Award in 2025. She was also selected for an educational exposure programme to Finland and has served in roles including district resource person and district child protection officer.
Her work at MPPS Girls Gandhari has reportedly coincided with a significant increase in student enrolment. The school, which had around 40 students in 2018, is reported to have crossed 130 students after 2025. Student attendance has also improved, while the school has reported zero dropouts.
The school has developed facilities including computers, a library, toilets, electricity, dual desks and digital learning resources. Additional classrooms, a computer laboratory, a library and an RO water plant have also been sanctioned by the Telangana government, according to the report.
The National Teachers Awards are administered under the Ministry of Education. The official National Teachers Awards portal states that the 2026 selection process involved district or regional and state-level shortlisting followed by consideration by an independent national jury. The official schedule lists September 4 and 5 for rehearsal and the award ceremony.
The award is presented annually on September 5 to recognise meritorious school teachers. The Ministry of Education has stated that the programme aims to honour educators whose commitment and innovative practices contribute to better school education and the holistic development of students.
