Hyderabad, March,16,2026: Telangana Anganwadi centres will operate with half-day sessions as temperatures rise during the early summer period. The Telangana government announced that Anganwadi centres will function only during morning hours to ensure the safety of children.
According to the latest government order, Anganwadi centres across the state will work from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM until April 23. The decision was taken considering the increasing heat and to protect young children attending these centres.
Authorities stated that the new schedule will help reduce the exposure of children to extreme temperatures during the afternoon hours. Officials said the measure is intended to safeguard the health and safety of children during the summer season.
Despite the change in working hours, the government confirmed that nutrition services will continue without interruption. Through the Take Home Ration system, nutritious food will still be distributed to children, pregnant women and lactating mothers.
Both central and state governments continue to run nutrition programmes through Anganwadi centres to support child development and maternal health. Officials said arrangements have been made to ensure that beneficiaries receive their nutrition support even with the adjusted timings.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy recently stated that the central government has decided to upgrade 5008 Anganwadi centres in Telangana into Saksham Anganwadi centres. He said the central government has allocated Rs 30.04 crore for the modernisation programme.
These upgraded centres will have improved infrastructure compared to regular centres. The facilities will include LED screens, water filters, nutrition gardens and early childhood learning materials.
The modernisation is part of the Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 programme implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development. The programme aims to strengthen Anganwadi centres operating in government buildings across the country.
Officials said the initiative will improve nutrition services and early childhood care for children, while also providing better support for pregnant women and new mothers.
The state government is also considering announcing summer holidays for Anganwadi centres for about a month after April 23, similar to the practice followed last year.
