California,May 03,2026: The cosmo ai assistant app was briefly published by Google on the Play Store on May 1 before being removed within hours. The experimental app, built by Google Research, offers multiple AI-powered features and may be officially unveiled at Google I/O 2026.

Google accidentally released its experimental cosmo ai assistant app on the Play Store before quickly pulling it down. The app appeared on May 1 and was discovered shortly after, suggesting an unintended early reveal ahead of the company’s upcoming developer event.

The listing described the app as an experimental AI assistant designed for Android devices. It was published under the package name linked to Google Research, although it appeared on the company’s main Play Store account rather than a testing channel.

The app file size was around 1.13 GB and included a built-in Gemini Nano model for on-device processing. Users were given three inference options: a fully offline mode using Nano, a server-based model referred to as PI, and a hybrid mode that switches depending on connectivity.

According to the listing, the app featured 14 AI-powered tools called Skills. These included a list tracker, a calendar event suggester, and a browser agent powered by Google’s internal automation tool Mariner. A Deep Research feature was designed to generate reports from multiple sources, while a conversation summary tool aimed to recap previous interactions automatically.

The app also appeared to use Android’s AccessibilityService API, allowing it to interact with on-screen content. However, this functionality was not fully operational during initial testing.

Screenshots in the listing showed inconsistencies, including incorrect aspect ratios, and availability appeared limited even on supported devices. The app was first noticed by a technology publication before it was removed.

The brief appearance of the app suggests it may be part of a larger announcement planned for Google I/O 2026, which begins on May 19. It remains unclear whether the app will launch as a standalone product or be integrated into existing AI services.
