Telangana Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka visited Eturunagaram in Mulugu district on Thursday and inaugurated several development and welfare initiatives. The minister also launched clothing and jute bag manufacturing units aimed at creating local employment opportunities for women.
During the visit, Seethakka encouraged women to make use of self-employment opportunities and work towards achieving financial independence. She said the government would promote training centres equipped with modern machinery to improve employment opportunities for women.
The minister highlighted the potential of locally available forest produce to generate employment and income within villages. She called for greater focus on value-added products made from forest produce such as mahua flowers, honey and leaf products, according to the report on her visit.
Seethakka also said that sewing machines would be provided to women who complete the required training, with the objective of helping them establish sustainable self-employment activities. The newly inaugurated clothing and jute bag units are expected to provide an avenue for trained women to participate in local production activities.
As part of the welfare programmes conducted during the visit, the minister distributed new ration cards to 1,219 beneficiaries. Laptops were also distributed to students, according to the report.
The visit comes amid the Telangana government’s ongoing focus on welfare delivery and livelihood opportunities for women and rural communities. Earlier this week, Seethakka distributed QR-code-enabled smart ration cards to beneficiaries in Mulugu and Mallampalli mandals and said new cards were being issued to eligible poor families.
The Mulugu district administration identifies Eturunagaram as an important tribal development centre, with the Eturunagaram Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) serving tribal communities in the district.
