New Delhi: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has said his government will complete the Pranahita-Chevella, SLBC and Kalwakurthy lift irrigation projects envisioned by former Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and dedicate them to the people of Telangana.

Revanth Reddy made the remarks at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Award-2026 presentation ceremony organised by the Dr. YSR-KVP Foundation at Constitution Club in New Delhi.

The award was presented to the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation in recognition of its work in Indian agriculture, food security, sustainable development and rural livelihoods.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister recalled Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s efforts for farmers and said the three irrigation projects were aimed at providing irrigation to around 16 lakh acres in Telangana. He said completing these projects would fulfil an important aspiration associated with the late leader.

Revanth Reddy also recalled YSR’s 2003 Praja Prasthanam padayatra, undertaken during the summer to understand the problems faced by farmers and economically weaker sections. According to the Chief Minister, YSR subsequently took steps aimed at improving the financial and social position of farmers, including the decision to provide free electricity to agriculture.

The Chief Minister said YSR’s government took several measures for farmers after coming to power, including the cancellation of electricity arrears amounting to Rs 1,300 crore and withdrawal of cases filed against farmers. He called for collective efforts to fulfil YSR’s unfinished aspirations.

Revanth Reddy also highlighted the role of the Public Distribution System in providing food security to poorer sections. He said the PDS system introduced during the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi laid the foundation for food distribution programmes that continue to benefit people.

He said Telangana is currently providing six kilograms of fine rice free of cost to each beneficiary among about 3.40 crore people under the state’s food security programme.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Tummala Nageswara Rao and Vivek Venkataswamy, MP Jairam Ramesh, MLC Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud and KVP Foundation president K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao were among those who attended the event.
