Tirupati.24.09.2024: A recent incident involving the famous Tirupati laddu has raised concerns among devotees. A woman from Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh, claimed that she found pieces of tobacco wrapped in paper inside a laddu, which was given to her as prasadam at the Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati. The woman, identified as Donthu Padmavati, said she discovered this when she brought the laddu home on September 19 to share with her family.
This issue has caused alarm among devotees, especially following an earlier controversy where it was alleged that animal fat, including beef tallow and lard, was found in the ghee used to make the laddus. These allegations were brought up by Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who cited a private lab report claiming the presence of substandard ingredients in the prasadam. However, these claims have been denied by the previous Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, who called it an attempt to politicize religious matters.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), responsible for managing the temple, is under scrutiny as devotees demand stricter quality control to maintain the sacred nature of the prasadam. The controversy has sparked a major debate, with some calling for a thorough investigation to clear any doubts.
