Pothaipally Village Bans Alcohol with Strict Fines
Lingampeta.26.01.2025: The villagers of Pothaipally in Lingampeta Mandal, Kamareddy district, have made a remarkable decision to ban alcohol in their village. This resolution was taken unanimously by the villagers to address the growing issue of alcohol addiction among youth and farm laborers.
Due to the rise of illegal liquor shops in the area, many families were suffering as men spent their earnings on alcohol, leading to financial struggles and social problems. To tackle this, the village development committee has announced strict measures to enforce the ban starting February 1st.
As per the resolution, anyone caught selling alcohol in the village will be fined Rs. 60,000. Additionally, the committee has decided to reward Rs. 10,000 to those who report such sellers to the village elders. Furthermore, consuming alcohol within or around the village will also lead to a fine of Rs. 5,000.
The villagers hope this decision will not only curb alcohol addiction but also inspire nearby villages to adopt similar measures. However, implementing such a ban effectively remains a challenge. In the past, similar resolutions were taken in other villages but eventually failed as people found ways to bypass the rules.
The villagers believe real change will only happen when individuals themselves decide to quit drinking and support the ban. Until then, the success of this resolution depends on collective efforts and strict enforcement.
