Hyderabad.28.01.2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin are expected to campaign in Telangana for the upcoming municipal elections, which are scheduled to be held on February 11. Senior BJP leaders said both national leaders are likely to take part in election campaigning, although the exact dates and locations of their visits have not yet been finalized.

The BJP is placing strong importance on the municipal polls as part of its long-term political strategy in Telangana. The party hopes to improve its performance in urban local bodies and strengthen its position as a major political alternative to the ruling Congress party and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). Party leaders believe that doing well in these local elections will help build momentum ahead of the 2028 Telangana Assembly elections.

In the 2023 Assembly elections, the BJP won eight seats, showing moderate growth in the state. The party performed even better in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where it won eight out of the total 17 parliamentary seats in Telangana. This success increased confidence within the party and encouraged leaders to focus more on strengthening the organization at the local level.

However, the BJP recently suffered a setback after losing the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election, which highlighted the challenges the party continues to face in certain urban areas. Despite this loss, BJP leaders remain hopeful that a strong campaign and high-profile leaders like Amit Shah and Nitin Nabin can help attract voters during the municipal elections.

The Telangana State Election Commission, on January 28, announced that the municipal elections will be held in a single phase. Polling will take place on February 11 across seven municipal corporations and 116 municipalities in the state. These elections are expected to be closely watched, as they will indicate public opinion in urban regions and shape future political strategies.

Political observers believe that the participation of national leaders in the campaign could increase voter interest and strengthen the BJP’s visibility in Telangana’s cities and towns. The coming weeks are likely to see intense campaigning by all major political parties as they compete for control of local bodies across the state.
