Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla Takes Oath in Telugu at Raj Bhavan

Hyderabad, March,11,2026: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla took oath as the new Governor of Telangana on Wednesday. The oath ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad and was administered by Chief Justice of the High Court Apares Kumar Singh.

Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla

The swearing in ceremony took place at Lok Bhavan in the presence of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, several ministers, legislators, and senior officials. Shiv Pratap Shukla read the entire oath in Telugu, which drew attention as many governors usually take the oath in other languages.

The ceremony was attended by key members of the state government and administrative officials. The event formally marked the beginning of Shiv Pratap Shukla’s tenure as the Governor of Telangana.

Unlike many previous oath ceremonies, the new Governor chose to read his oath completely in Telugu. The gesture was noted during the ceremony attended by the state leadership.

Political Background of Shiv Pratap Shukla

Shiv Pratap Shukla hails from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and is a lawyer by profession. After entering politics, he left his legal practice and continued his public career through the Bharatiya Janata Party.

He has been associated with the BJP since the early years of the party. Shukla served as a public representative from 1989 and won multiple terms as the MLA from Gorakhpur Rural between 1989 and 2012.

During the first BJP government formed in the state, he served as a minister. He also held responsibilities within the state unit of the party as part of the leadership team.

Parliament and Union Government Role

In 2016, Shiv Pratap Shukla was elected as a Member of Parliament to the Rajya Sabha. Later he served as Minister of State in the Union Ministry of Finance.

He held the position from September 3, 2017 to May 30, 2019. During his political career he gained recognition for supporting the welfare and economic development of socially and economically weaker sections.

Previous Role Before Telangana Appointment

Before being appointed as the Governor of Telangana, Shiv Pratap Shukla served as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh. He assumed that role on February 13, 2023.

His transfer to Telangana came as part of the recent reshuffle of governors by the central government. With the oath ceremony completed, he has officially taken charge as the new Governor of Telangana.

Shukla is also known for his academic interests and thoughtful public engagement during his political career.
