New Delhi, March,12,2026: The Telangana MLA Defection Case saw a major development on March 12 as the Supreme Court closed the petitions related to alleged party defections by legislators. The decision came after the Telangana Assembly Speaker had already delivered a ruling on the matter.

The development provides relief to ten MLAs who had been facing allegations of switching parties. With the Speaker’s decision already in place, the Supreme Court said further judicial intervention was not required and disposed of the case.

A bench comprising Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Augustine George Masih heard the matter in the Supreme Court. During the hearing, lawyers representing the Speaker informed the court that a detailed inquiry had already been conducted on the disqualification petitions and a final decision had been issued.

Taking note of this, the bench stated that since the Speaker had exercised his constitutional authority and delivered a verdict, there was no need for the court to continue hearing the matter.

However, lawyers representing the petitioners told the court that they had not yet received copies of the Speaker’s order. Responding to this, the Supreme Court directed that copies of the decision should be provided to the petitioners within two days.

The court also instructed that other relevant documents and records connected to the case must be supplied within five days.

The bench further observed that the scope of judicial interference is limited when a decision has been taken by the Speaker, who holds a constitutional position within the legislative system.

Meanwhile, Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar had earlier announced his ruling on the petitions concerning party defections by certain MLAs. He stated that there was no sufficient evidence to prove that MLAs Danam Nagender and Kadiyam Srihari had switched parties.

As a result, the Speaker rejected the petitions filed against the two legislators. With this decision, all ten MLAs who had faced defection allegations received relief.

Previously, the Speaker had also dismissed petitions filed against eight other MLAs in the same matter.

With the Speaker delivering final decisions on all ten petitions, the issue that had been under discussion in Telangana political circles for several months appears to have reached a temporary conclusion within the Assembly framework.

The Supreme Court had earlier asked the Speaker to take a decision on the matter within a stipulated timeframe. As the deadline approached, the Speaker announced the final rulings.

With the Supreme Court now closing the Telangana MLA Defection Case, the legal proceedings at the apex court level have ended for the moment. Political observers note that the issue could now move into a new phase depending on future developments.
