Ponnapalli: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu interacted with fishermen during a boat ride at Ponnapalli in West Godavari district as part of the NTR Bharosa pension distribution programme. He travelled by boat with members of the fishing community and spoke with them about their livelihoods and the challenges they face.

Naidu visited Ponnapalli near the Godavari bund on Tuesday, September 1, during his tour of West Godavari district. As part of the “Pedala Sevalo” programme, he met NTR Bharosa pension beneficiaries and distributed pensions while interacting with local residents.

Following the pension distribution, the Chief Minister boarded a boat at the ferry point and spent time with fishermen on the Godavari. The interaction provided an opportunity to understand their day-to-day livelihood and the difficulties associated with fishing activities.

The Andhra Pradesh government’s NTR Bharosa Pension Scheme includes fishermen among the categories covered under social security pensions. According to the official scheme information, the pension amount for fishermen was enhanced to Rs 4,000 per month from July 2024.

During the West Godavari visit, Naidu also addressed a public meeting at Mogalthur and later participated in a meeting with the West Godavari district party cadre. His programme included interactions with beneficiaries in Narsapur and Ponnapalli before proceeding to Mogalthur.

The boat interaction highlighted the government’s focus on engaging directly with beneficiaries and fishing communities. Fishermen’s welfare and safety remain important issues for coastal communities dependent on fishing for their livelihoods.

The visit formed part of the broader NTR Bharosa pension distribution programme in Andhra Pradesh, through which the government provides monthly social security support to eligible beneficiaries, including fishermen and other vulnerable sections of society.
