Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler

The company unveiled its global pickup in India as the Scorpio Lifestyler after first showcasing the concept in Cape Town, South Africa, in August 2023. Mahindra said the vehicle is aimed at customers looking for a combination of capability, technology, safety and everyday comfort.

Mahindra targets growing lifestyle pickup demand

Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of the Automotive Division at Mahindra & Mahindra, said the company sees an opportunity in the domestic market because of latent demand for vehicles that offer strong capability without compromising on technology, safety and comfort.

“We see a growing appetite among customers for a vehicle that delivers authentic capability without compromising on technology, safety, comfort for everyday usability,” Gollagunta said.

Mahindra said it is investing in building awareness, expanding its network and developing the ownership experience for the lifestyle pickup category.

Designed and developed in India

The Scorpio Lifestyler has been designed at Mahindra India Design Studio in Mumbai and developed at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. The company has unveiled three versions of the pickup: Valley edition, Reef edition and Trail edition.

Mahindra plans to position the vehicle as a global product, with the pickup also targeting markets across Australia and New Zealand, South Africa, other African markets, the Middle East and Latin America.

Focus on international expansion

Mahindra said it will continue to focus on right-hand-drive markets such as South Africa and Australia, where it already has an established presence. The company is also evaluating opportunities in other markets, including the UK and Indonesia.

Gollagunta said Mahindra wants to approach new international markets carefully and would enter them with the objective of building a strong and sustainable presence rather than expanding simply for the sake of geographic reach.

Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler launch outlook

The Scorpio Lifestyler is scheduled to make its Indian debut by April 2027. With an expected starting price below Rs 19.79 lakh ex-showroom, Mahindra will target customers seeking a lifestyle-oriented pickup with a balance of utility, capability and modern features.
