New Delhi, April 16,2026: Maruti Ignis India discontinued after Maruti Suzuki reportedly halted production of the hatchback following slow sales and declining demand. The model was priced between Rs 5.35 lakh and Rs 7.55 lakh, ex-showroom, and was sold through the company’s NEXA dealership network.
Dealer sources have confirmed that production of the Maruti Ignis ended more than a month ago, and bookings for the hatchback have been stopped. However, Maruti Suzuki has not yet made an official announcement, and the model continues to be listed on the company’s NEXA website.
The Maruti Ignis was first launched in India in 2017 and received a facelift in 2020. The hatchback was offered in Delta, Zeta and Alpha variants in its final phase. The Sigma variant had been removed earlier from the lineup.
Feature highlights of the Ignis included a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six-speaker audio setup, climate control, electrically adjustable ORVMs and push-button start in higher variants. It also featured aircraft-style toggle switches in the cabin.
Safety equipment on the hatchback included ABS, EBD, airbags and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
The Ignis was powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 83 hp and 113 Nm of torque. Transmission choices included a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT automatic.
Known for its tall-boy design and distinctive styling, the Ignis developed a niche following in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki had also introduced multiple cosmetic editions of the hatchback in recent months, which are now believed to have been part of inventory clearance efforts.
The discontinued hatchback is expected to be replaced by a new micro SUV from Maruti Suzuki, currently codenamed Y43. The upcoming model is likely to rival the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter in the growing entry-level SUV segment.
The Y43 is expected to use a 1.2-litre petrol engine and will likely be positioned below the Brezza in Maruti Suzuki’s lineup. It is also expected to be sold through NEXA dealerships once launched.
Maruti Suzuki has not announced an official launch timeline for the upcoming micro SUV, but reports suggest it could arrive later this year or in early 2027.
