New Delhi.23.06.2024 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case concerning alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 examination. The decision follows the Centre’s directive for a comprehensive investigation into reports of cheating, impersonation, and other malpractices.

  1. NEET-UG 2024 Background:

The NEET-UG 2024 exam was held on May 5, with 24 lakh students taking the test across 4,750 centers in India. Results were announced on June 4, earlier than expected. However, soon after, there were reports of cheating and a paper leak.

  1. Arrests in Bihar:

In Bihar, the police arrested seven people, including four students, for allegedly leaking the NEET-UG paper. These students admitted in writing that they got the question paper a day before the exam. This raised serious concerns about the fairness of the exam.

  1. Government’s Response:

The Ministry of Education released a statement saying, “There have been reports of cheating, impersonation, and other malpractices in the NEET exam. To ensure the exam process is fair, the Ministry has decided to have the CBI investigate these issues.”

  1. Role of the CBI:

The CBI will now handle all the cases related to NEET-UG 2024 cheating. They will take over the cases from state police and investigate the overall cheating scheme. The goal is to find out how widespread the problem is and who is involved.

  1. Political Reactions:

The cheating reports led to a political debate, with some opposition parties asking for the NEET-UG exam to be held again. However, the Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, said that the government will not let a few incidents affect the future of millions of students.

The CBI investigation aims to make sure that the NEET-UG exam process is fair and trustworthy. This will help maintain students’ trust in the exam system.
