Kathmandu,March,15,2026 : A Nepal bus accident involving Indian pilgrims left seven people dead after a microbus plunged into a deep ravine in Nepal’s Gandaki province on Saturday. The victims were returning from the Manakamana Temple when the vehicle lost control and fell down a mountain slope.
According to police officials, the accident occurred near Shahid Lakhan village in Gorkha district, about 120 kilometres west of Kathmandu. The bus reportedly veered off a curved mountain road and rolled down nearly 150 metres before landing in a ravine.
Authorities confirmed that all seven deceased were Indian nationals. The victims included two women and five men. Officials identified them as Muthu Kumar, Anamalik, Meenakshi, Sivagami, Vijayal, Meena and Tamilarsi.
Police said the passengers had been travelling in a microbus that was returning from the Manakamana Temple, a popular Hindu pilgrimage site visited by devotees seeking blessings from the goddess believed to grant wishes.
Seven other passengers were injured in the crash and were rescued from the accident site. According to local reports, the injured are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Anbukhaireni.
The driver of the electric bus escaped without injuries, while the driver’s assistant sustained injuries in the incident.
Suraj Aryal, chief of the District Traffic Police Office in Gorkha, confirmed the casualties and said rescue teams reached the accident site shortly after the crash was reported.
The accident took place on the road connecting the highway to the Manakamana Temple area. The vehicle was descending a mountain road when it reportedly slipped off a curve before rolling down the hillside.
Nepal frequently reports road accidents in mountainous regions where narrow roads and steep slopes make driving challenging.
Last month, another major bus accident in the country killed at least 19 passengers and injured dozens. In that incident, a bus travelling from Pokhara to Kathmandu veered off the Prithvi Highway and rolled down a slope before landing near the Trishuli River.
Authorities continue to monitor the condition of the injured passengers as local officials handle rescue and recovery operations following the latest crash.
