Pune,April 18,2026: The runway at pune airport was temporarily shut late Friday night following an incident involving an aircraft of the Indian Air Force. Authorities confirmed that all aircrew members are safe and no damage was reported to civil property.
According to officials, the incident occurred during a landing operation, leading to the suspension of runway activities. Efforts were immediately initiated to restore normal flight operations at the airport.
The Indian Air Force stated that the runway is currently unavailable due to the aircraft incident. It added that work is ongoing to make the runway operational at the earliest possible time.
A police official indicated that the aircraft experienced a hard landing but did not provide further details about the situation.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol confirmed the temporary shutdown and said airlines have been informed about the disruption. He stated that it may take around five hours to restore normal runway operations.
He also noted that he is in constant contact with airport authorities and Air Force officials to ensure that the issue is resolved quickly and operations resume without further delay.
The Pune Airport operates under a dual-use model, handling both civilian flights and military operations. This arrangement means that any incident involving military aircraft can impact commercial flight schedules.
Authorities are continuing restoration work, and normal services are expected to resume once the runway is cleared and declared safe for operations.
