Bhadrachalam.26.09.2024: The Mothe Gadda Sri Veerabhadra Swamy Temple, located on an island in the Godavari River in Kothagudem district, is in need of immediate repairs. Recent floods have damaged the temple’s outer wall and eroded the base, raising concerns about its safety.

Built during the 13th century Kakatiya era, the temple is a significant spiritual site for locals, particularly tribal communities, who worship Veerabhadra Swamy. Thousands of devotees from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh visit the temple during festivals like Maha Shivaratri, traveling across the river by boat.

Bhadrachalam Locals and devotees are urging the Endowment Department to take swift action to preserve the historic temple. R Gokul Sadashiva Vishal, a devotee from Paloncha, stressed the importance of strengthening the temple’s foundation to prevent further erosion.

Pinapaka MLA Payam Venkateshwarlu, who visited the site, reassured the public that while the outer wall was damaged, the temple itself was not in immediate danger. He added that officials have been asked to prepare repair estimates, and funds will be requested from the state government to carry out the necessary work.

The temple holds a special place in the region’s cultural and religious heritage, and timely repairs are critical to ensuring its preservation for future generations.
