Washington,April 3,2026: NASA Artemis II astronauts shared a high resolution image of Earth from space during their ongoing lunar mission. The image was captured during the historic crewed mission to the Moon, marking the first human lunar voyage in more than 50 years.
The NASA Artemis II astronauts launched from Kennedy Space Center on Wednesday for a 10 day test mission aboard the Orion spacecraft. The crew includes four astronauts, three from the United States and one from Canada.
During the mission, astronaut Christina Koch shared a photograph of Earth taken from tens of thousands of miles away and captioned it, You guys look great. The image shows Earth in high detail from deep space during the journey toward the Moon.
The mission is part of NASA Artemis program testing critical systems required for future lunar missions. Early in the flight, the crew tested spacecraft systems while orbiting Earth before firing the engines to begin their journey toward the Moon.
The astronauts are scheduled to perform a lunar flyby on Monday. The spacecraft will travel about 4000 miles beyond the Moon and provide views of the far side of the Moon from space. The crew is also expected to observe a total solar eclipse from their position during the mission.
The Artemis II mission is designed as a test flight to prepare for future missions that aim to establish a long term human presence on the Moon. NASA is planning a crewed Moon landing mission as part of the Artemis program in 2028.
This mission marks an important step in human space exploration as NASA continues testing spacecraft systems and mission procedures needed for future lunar exploration missions.
