TEHRAN, April 4, 2026: A US airman remains missing after a fighter jet was shot down in southern Iran, according to latest reports on April 4, 2026. Search operations by US forces are ongoing as Iranian authorities also attempt to locate the crew member.

The incident involves an F-15 fighter jet that went down during operations over southern Iran. One crew member, identified as the pilot, has been rescued, while the second crew member, a weapon systems officer, is still unaccounted for.

US forces have launched a search and rescue mission in the region. Reports indicate that the operation includes helicopters and aircraft, with teams working under dangerous conditions to locate the missing airman.

Iranian officials have also initiated a search in the area. State media reports say authorities are offering financial rewards to citizens who help capture the missing crew member alive.

During the rescue mission, another US aircraft, an A-10 Warthog, was reportedly targeted. The pilot ejected over the Gulf and was later rescued, according to US media reports.

The situation has increased tensions amid the ongoing conflict. US President Donald Trump stated that the incident would not affect negotiations with Iran, though officials acknowledge the situation remains highly sensitive.

According to official figures, 365 US service members have been wounded since the start of the conflict, with 13 fatalities reported so far.

Elsewhere in the region, Iran reported an attack near the Bushehr nuclear facility that resulted in one death. Additional incidents include missile interceptions in Israel and explosions reported in Damascus.

The downing of a US fighter jet is considered a rare event. Previous incidents have occurred only a few times in recent decades, highlighting the seriousness of the current situation.

The search for the missing airman is described as time critical. Experts say such missions are among the most dangerous in military operations, with personnel trained to survive, evade capture, and await rescue.

The outcome of the search operation could significantly impact ongoing military and political developments in the region.
